Production Planning Timeline

Here is the planned timeline that we have set ourselves. We intend to finish both filming and editing and thus have our trailer completely finished by 20th December 2013.

20th October- 30th October:
Get All locations ready and prepared. Sort out dates where filming will be done. While this is being done, complete storyboard and get all of the cast ready. 10 days is more than enough for this so we should be ahead of our time after this hopefully.

1st November- 30th November:
Complete all filming in all locations. 1 Month is more than enough for a 1 1/2 minute trailer and will mean that there will be enough time to plan with our cast and distinguish times where we are al free.  Take constant images during filming in order to look further ahead for our magazine front cover and film poster. It should also give us plenty of time to get to our fuurther away locations such as the running track in Wimbledon. This one month should be sufficient time to complete our filming and if we are ahead of schedule, we should start our editing as soon as possible.

1st December- 20th December:
This period of time should be soley taken up by editing. We may have started editing during the filming stage but we must ensure that editing is fully completed by the 20th December so we can focus of our magazine front cover and film poster.

Planning Targets

Well done so far on planning and beginning to film quite an orignal trailer. I would like to see some more evidence of your time management as a group. I know it's been exceptional - but could you show the list of dates and times you've been working with on your blog to show how well you've planned your production.

Props

We have just recently started filming and so I have decided to do a post around the actual props that we are currently using via real life screenshots.  These screenshots show just a few of our props.

    12/11/2013:
On this day, we started our filming in our first location which was Ultimate Fitness Boxing club. During the filming, I have taken some screenshots to show some of the many props that we are using. Of course, we have many more props for the different locations but for now, I am just looking at the boxing club props.

The picture above shows the boxing pads which is commonly used by boxing trainers in movies. Furthermore, the hat that Mohammed is wearing is another important prop associated with boxing trainers.

Here is the heavyweight championship belt that we have got permission in including in our trailer. This belt is vital to show the audience the importance of the main character and how famous he actually is.

Here we see the boxing gloves that our main characters are using. We can also see the grey hooded jumper that Aran is wearing which shows the level of intensity that he was at during that shot.

Filming Diary- Actual Trailer Filming

12/11/13

Today was the beginning of our filming process whereby we started filming at our boxing location named "Ultimate Fitness Boxing." Today, we spent around two hours for something that will take up a maximum of around 30 seconds of our trailer. We had got a lot done today and will probably have to revisit this location one more time. We still understand that we have to fill another minutes worth of shots and thus we must work a little bit faster in order to still be able to achieve our individual target as a group.

Here was the initial stages of our filming where we just wanted to get used to the location and the different types of props that we had. This probably took the bulk of the day but once we got the chemistry sorted between the boxer and his trainer, the filming became more smoother and quicker.

We show how effective and how much work we put in, especially Aran who had to basically make it seem as if he is a professional boxer and I believe that he has done a very good job as of far. We see how quick he reacts to Mohammed in the video above but this took almost half an hour of practice before filming what will take up no more than 3 seconds of the trailer. Despite this, the rest of the filming went much quicker due to us knowing what we want and Aran getting used to the apparatus much more.

Here is a brief overview of what we have accomplished today and what we still have left to do. Yo can also see the location in detail where we have been practicing.

Storyboard and animatic

Here is the animatic of our storyboard. We realised that our storyboard was very long and thus produced an animatic in order to make it much easier to identify to the audience. Muhammed produced the animatic as I created the storyboard.

This animatic is just a brief overview of how the motion of the trailer is going to look and again gives us an indication of what we are going to do and makes us think if we are going to make adjustments beforhand.

Here is our in depth storyboard for our trailer. I created this and it was very time consuming. It took 2 days of non stop work in order to complete this storyboard which consists of 49 boxes. I believe that my experience from last year told me how vital a storyboard actually is for a trailer and because we have an in-depth storyboard, this should make the filming go much smoother and this should hopefully mean that our time managament is going to be better and we wi8ll waste as little time as possible now that we know what needs to be achieved in each location.

Twitter Research

We witness a lot of promotions regarding social networking sights in trailers. Such social networking sights like Facebook and Twitter have been very helpful in the promotion of movies as shown in the Batman Viral Marketing Campaign. We plan to incorporate this in our trailer via including a twitter hashtag as well as a website.
The proposed hashtag that we plan to use is #RTTT which is an abbreviation of rise to the top. Below is a picture of a tweet which Mohammed has produced that includes this hashtag:

We intend to encorporate this hashtag in our trailer to make a wider public aware of our movie. Because of this, we have decided that we will put the hashtag on the bottom left of the screen throughout the entire trailer. It will be small an not take up much room thus giving the trailer it self more relevence.
As all three of us in our group use these social networking platforms often, we knew that the hashtag shouldn't be long and thus made it an abbreviation. Hashtags tend to be no more than 10-15 characters. We understand that the less characters used, as you can only use 140 characters including spaces. This means that there is more room for the audience to write about the movie.

Film Questionnaire Evaluation

Title Research- Rocky Balboa and Fighting

We have decided on the title "Rise to the Top" for our movie but now I'm going to research how the title is going to look by observing the titles of films with the similar genre. The two titles that I'm going to look at is Rock Balboa and fighting. The reason I chose these two is because they are fairly contemporary movies in regard to this genre and there aren't many movies that have been released recently that have this genre.

Rocky Balboa:

What I have noticed from this title is the black background which makes the gold stand out. The light can connote the success that can be achieved and should be noted down for when we are producing our title. Furthermore, the light can also show the fame surrounding this a name and this is why the movie itself slightly lacks relevance in regards to what we are trying to produce as there were six movies prior to this one and thus is already a world famous title. The boldness of the title makes every letter as relevant as the other and is one thing we must consider for our movie. I feel that the starting letter of each word will be the biggest size thus adding effect when we will abbreviate Rise to the top to "R.T.T.T." The other letters will all be the same size.
This title has been very helpful as I now know how to put relevance on a specific part of the title and thus the audience will remember the title more. Furthermore, we are potentially showing two titles in Rise To The Top and R.T.T.T. which gives the audience more of a chance to remember the trailer.

Fighting:

The title fighting can be found on the bottom of this poster and is in a bold, red font. The letters are all the same size and makes each letter as relevant as the other just like the Rock Balboa title. We witness this title in a white background which does slightly make it stand out but not as much as the rocky title with the black background. This title is very similar to rocky and so I feel as if there isn't much more to say about this.

What I have learnt from this is title research is how these similar genre titles look rather plain with a plain background. This tells me that we don't need to make our title  look over dramatic. I agree with this because the characters in these movies face some kind of struggle and the title represents this. This post has been very helpful  in the production of our title and has given me a clear indication of which path to take in order for it to complement my genre. The effect of turning the title it self into abbreviations has been decided upon in as shown on my previous title research post by one of our group members but this research has given me a clearer view of how to execute it.

Title Research

We had been struggling to find an ideal title for our movie and we knew that we must have a title name before we start filming. This is why I made a Whatsapp group in order to keep our ideas flowing through the half term and also finalise our plan for filming. It was here where Mohammed came up with the title during a quick brainstorming session on this app. I had taken screenshots as shown below of how we came up with the name.

Here is our conversation and as you can see, we have decided to call the movie Rise To The Top. We had a number of ideas for titles but this was the first one in which we had said a unanimous yes to. Mohammed came up with the name and Aran came up with the idea to turn it into an abbreviation. This sounded realistic and do-able.
Ultimately, we feel as if we are ready for filming after this title breakthrough. This has also taught me how the use of communication among different platforms is a more likely way of being more successful. We now must do some research on similar movies such as Rocky and Fighting and see how their title looks like in order to find the conventions for titles of the sports/ drama genre. Before filming, we must ensure that we have a title font ready and so this will give us a better indication of how we are going to film and our time management.

Filming Diary

Monday, 21st

Here is a summary of my first conversation with the owner of the boxing ring called Mark. The purpode for this was just a simple introduction  and an idea of what we are planning to do within this project and why we need the boxing ring. We also talk about possible payments for hiring out the boxing ring.

Monday, 21st October 2013

We have started to get in contact with the locations that we wish to acquire in order to make this trailer a success. The first conversation shown in the picture above consists of a conversation between Mark and the ultimate Fitness Boxing ring which we wish to use. I had already spoken to the owner of this gym and got all the valid details for it. This location almost seems like a done deal and we thought that this location would probably be the hardest one to get. We are going to keep in contact with him once we have finalised our storyboard so we don't waste his time. Our conversation consisted of the possible payment required for using his ring but he said that promoting his ring is the only payment he requires. This was a perfect situation for us as we intended to do an establishing shot of our boxing location anyway.

29th October 2013

There has been some slow progress in the acquisition of the boxing ring but I have send this text to try and speed things up a bit. We ultimately want to start filming by Monday 4th October and so we will be waiting for a reply .

Film Planning

Here is the initial plan for our film. The reason in which we done this is the start getting the ideas of our trailer flowing. This has also told us about what types of locations we would need. It has also helped us in the production of our storyboard as we had a better indication of the direction in which we want this trailer to go. This will ultimately mean that we will film as efficiently and effectively as possible as we have guidelines that we are going to follow. This has also got me thinking about the different shot types and angles we should use to make each individual shot effective.
